School Committee

The Whitesburg Christian Academy Committee is the governing body of the Academy.  It functions under the authority of and in conjunction with the pastor’s office of Whitesburg Baptist Church.  The committee is composed of five members who are nominated by the church nominating committee and elected by the membership of the church.  They serve five year terms with one member rotating off and a new member being elected each year.

The Committee uses a system called “policy governance” based on a model developed and copyrighted by Dr. John Carver and implemented under the direction of consultant Phil Graybeal.  The Headmaster administers the school under this system implemented and monitored by the Academy Committee on behalf of the Senior Associate Pastor.  Outside of setting and monitoring compliance of policy, the committee is not involved in the day-to-day operation of the Academy in any way.  They graciously devote many hours of their time to the well-being of the Academy.  The current committee members are listed below.

School Committee Members

Amy Varnon is a current Academy parent representative and has served for almost five years on the committee.  Amy is a full time educator working as a special education teacher in the Madison County School system.  Her favorite verse is "Take My yoke upon you and learn from me; for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” Matthew 11:29-30

Kerry Wilkerson is the Chief of Operations Officer for the Madison County Board of Education in Huntsville, where he has worked for 21 years.  Kerry has served on the committee for four years and was on the construction committee for three years prior to serving.  As an active advocate in the community, Kerry has served on several local boards and committees to include:  Leadership Huntsville, HEALS, Burritt Museum, ASPMA and the Graces of Gurley.  Kerry's job is to serve people with any talents God has given him, especially children.  Kerry says that seeing the hearts and relationships of people change and come to know the love of God is why he serves at Whitesburg Christian Academy.  His favorite bible verse says, "And Whatsoever you do in word and deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him" Colossians 3:17.

Casey Ray, a current Academy parent, is new to the school committee.

Eddie Richardson has served on the school committee for eleven of the past thirteen years. After a year off, he looks forward to serving through to the end of 2022.   Eddie serves this ministry of WBC because he believes all institutions require solid leadership or they drift away from the Godly principles that they were founded on.  He is passionate about Christian education and the impact a biblically based school can have on our country.  Having had three kids graduation from Christian schools (two from the Academy), he wants to see kids become passionate followers of Christ and well-trained student leaders that continue to live out their beliefs into adulthood.  Eddie is an engineer at Abaco Systems.  His favorite bible verse is "he saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit"  Titus 3:5.

Mark Baker, an Academy alumni parent, has been serving on the committee for 5 years.  Mark wants to be see all the Whitesburg Baptist Church ministries succeed. As a parent of two Whitesburg Christian Academy alumni, he sees the benefits this school ministry provides young people, not just during their primary and high school years, but also as they move on to college and into their careers.   Being on the school committee allows him to have a small part in moving this ministry forward.   Mark is an engineer with Marshall Space Flight Center.  His favorite Bible verse is John 6:37

Ron Husky, a active Whitesburg Baptist Church member and proponent of Christian education, has served for 8 years on the committee; one as chairman.  Ron says it is rewarding to have a part in a ministry that impacts students in our area and goes beyond just Whitesburg Baptist Church to equip and ground students in faith in Christ that helps them make a difference for Him throughout the rest of their lives.  Ron is an engineer in the aerospace industry and his favorite bible verse is Matt. 6:33-34, "But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.  Therefore don't be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself.  Sufficient for the day is its own trouble."
