Leadership

Each child is called by God to fulfill a specific purpose.  This call is individual, personal, and  revealed through the study of Scripture and time spent in prayer.  Given the proper training and opportunity, anyone is capable of leading.  The Academy strives to give students leadership training for their life's calling, so that upon graduation they can effectively pursue it.  The apostle Paul underscores this philosophy in Ephesians 4:1, "As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received."  Our students get a chance to build their skills through involvement in various community service projects (including work with shut-ins and the Downtown Rescue Mission), as well as participation in peer-inspired and peer-led activities.  This experience lays the foundation for their entrance into our Student Leadership Institute (SLI) in the middle and upper schools.  During their SLI sessions, students are taught the Biblical theory of leadership, which upon mastery prepares them to learn and apply specific skills.  Servant leadership is the core of this curriculum, which includes mentoring, featured speakers, and opportunities to apply the theories they learn to hands-on, real-world situations.  Students may also elect to participate in Student Leadership University, a comprehensive four-year program that includes trips to Orlando, Washington, D.C., Europe, and Israel.  By shifting the focus off of themselves through these activities, students learn to serve others and actively engage the world for Christ, which results in them being effective leaders in their church and community.
